He was the subject of two counts of having sexual relations with a patient and prescribing medication for her during their relationship. According to the verdict, the facts happened between autumn 2017 and March 2020 in Messines.

After filing a complaint, the Assistant General Counsel of the College of Physicians conducted an investigation. dr Jean-René Pierre immediately acknowledged the facts.

After all, it is a joint recommendation submitted to the Disciplinary Council of the Medical Association.

The latter accepted this suspension of 5 years and a fine of $2,500 for one offense and 4 months for the second, served concurrently.

A fair decision that sends a strong signal, according to the President of the Council for the Protection of the Sick.

“I believe there is a well-reasoned and well-supported decision there that I think shows social dislocation that I think is quite appropriate under the circumstances. It’s important to feel safe entering a doctor’s office and that’s the message,” said Paul Brunet, President of the Council for the Protection of the Sick.

The Medical Association, for its part, also reacted to the sanction of the Disciplinary Council.

The College does not condone any form of sexual intimacy between a doctor and a patient. They welcome the ruling and encourage the public to lodge a complaint in such a situation.
