A 14-year-old teenage girl was shot dead by gunmen in Mexico when they killed her father, a British real estate agent.

The teenage daughter of slain British businessman Chris Cleave was also shot in execution style and fled inches from her life, MailOnline reports.

A 14-year-old schoolgirl who was lucky to survive was slightly injured when two gunmen on motorcycles opened fire on traffic lights near a luxury resort in Cancun, Mexico.

Her father was instantly killed in the driver’s seat of his red Audi and, according to police sources, the girl was also shot in the front passenger seat.

She was taken to the hospital with a non-life-threatening wound from a gunshot at close range.

Police arrested two men suspected of stopping near Mr Cleve’s car to shoot him through the driver’s side window.

The two men have since been portrayed and named 30-year-old José N. and 18-year-old Lenin N.

Speaking exclusively to MailOnline from his home in Truro, Cornwall, his brother Nick, a businessman, said: “I spoke to his daughter – she is now out of the hospital.

“We will give her all the help she needs after she sees her father shot.”

Mr. Cleve, 54, a former soldier, settled in Mexico 23 years ago and has run a successful real estate business for wealthy tourists and investors.

But it is believed that he made enemies by opposing drug dealers who worked at one of the luxury resorts he ran.

The two killers were later apprehended by the police as they fled on a motorcycle. The police released their photographs, but have not yet named a motive for the murder.

His brother called Mr. Cleve his “little brother” and posted on Facebook: “They get theirs” and “Let’s hope the bastards get theirs.”

When Mail Online asked him what he meant by the comment, he said, “No one will harm my family.”

“Mexico is so corrupt, one of the most corrupt countries in the world, but I won’t go into details if Chris was a victim of that.

“We are still waiting for all the facts to be known, so I don’t want to say too much.”

After leaving the army, Mr. Cleve worked as a photocopier engineer but traveled the world and fell in love with Mexico in his early twenties.

His older brother said: “He loved to travel, he traveled all over the world, but he liked Mexico and settled there.

“His real estate business was very successful and he was held in high esteem and respect.

“We were very close, talking every week on the phone or on social media. I talked to him literally a few days before it happened, everything was in order. He was very happy.

“He wasn’t married, but he had a daughter from a relationship in Mexico.”

Mr Cleve made occasional trips home to Cornwall to see his 78-year-old mother, Yvonne, who lives near the seaside town of Hale.

His father Brian died 15 years ago.

His 56-year-old brother, who runs a watersports company in Falmouth, said: “Our mother is gutted, just like the rest of us.”

Mr Cleave posted a video of his brother in Mexico just a few weeks ago. They are captioned “My brother who loves life” and show him in a white linen suit driving an open-top sports car to meet friends at a party.

Relatives in Mexico support his daughter, who posted a picture on Facebook of her hugging her father after she was released from the hospital.

Tributes were paid to Mr. Cleve, who was described as “a wonderful father, brother, son and friend”.

Hannah Tonkin, a friend of the Cleve family, wrote on Facebook: “How awful that his poor daughter must be a witness to what she must be terrified to send thoughts of love and prayer.”

“I hope they figure out who did this and his family gets x justice.”

His funeral is being prepared in Mexico, but it is still too early to say whether his body will be returned to Cornwall.
