74 counts against a serial thief in Montreal –

A 48-year-old man who has been wanted for several weeks for around thirty thefts from shops in Montreal has finally been arrested in the past few days.

Éric Vervais is suspected of having committed no fewer than 36 burglaries in Montreal businesses since the end of the summer.

According to the authorities, Vervais mainly targeted businesses in Le Plateau-Mont-Royal and in the Rosemont-La Petite-Patrie district.

Éric Vervais was detained in the Centre-Sud district last week.

He was charged with 74 counts, including 36 counts of burglary and intrusion, 27 counts of theft and possession of stolen property, and 11 counts of possession of burglary tools.

The suspect typically struck at night by forcing the target stores to be locked down. Inside, he confiscated the contents of the cash drawer or various items before escaping.
