55 Cancri c (also called Rho1 Cancri c,Or HD75732c) is an exoplanet (An exoplanet or extrasolar planet is a planet orbiting a …) with a mass similar to that of orbiting Saturn (Autour is the name given to the bird nomenclature in the French language (updated day) there …) of the star (A star is a celestial object that emits light on its own, similar to a…) 55 Cancri (55 Cancri (abbreviation: 55 Cnc) is a double star located at 41…) . It is the third planet (A planet is a celestial body orbiting the Sun or another star of …) closest to the star of the system. 55 Cancri c was discovered in 2002.

discovery

Like most known extrasolar planets, 55 Cancri c was discovered by noting variations in the radial velocity of its star. Only one planet at 55 Cancri (55 Cancri b) was known at the time, however the star still experienced radial velocity changes that could not be removed from this single planet.

In 2002, new measurements showed the presence of a long-period planet in an orbit (In celestial mechanics, an orbit is the trajectory traced by a body in space…) located 5 AU from the star. Even when both planets were taken into account, there was still a range of about 43 days (The day or day is the interval between sunrise and sunset; it is the…). However, this period was close to the rotation period of the star itself, leading to the possibility that this 43-day period is caused by the star rather than a planet. The planets 55 Cancri c (the planet whose orbital period is (The orbital period is the time it takes for a star to complete its trajectory, or…) is 43 days) and 55 Cancri d (the planet located at 5 AU location of the star) were announced at the same time (time is a concept developed by humans to grasp that…).

Subsequent measurements, which led to the discovery in 2004 of the inner planet (in France, this name designates a doctor, pharmacist or dental surgeon where …) , or HH 75432e) is a planet …) in 2004, consolidated these Theory (The word theory comes from the Greek word theorein, meaning “consider, observe,…”), although 55 Cancri c the planet remains “the most hypothetical” of the system of the three Jupiter planets.

characteristics

Because this planet was discovered only indirectly through its gravitational influence on 55 Cancri A, certain properties such as its atmospheric composition, radius, or temperature are uncertain, even unknown. With a mass similar to that of Saturn, it is likely that 55 Cancri c is a gas giant Surface of an object The term a…) solid.

orbit and mass

The orbit of 55 Cancri c is very eccentric: at its apoapsis (The apoapse, apoapsis, upper apse or apocenter is the point of the orbit of a celestial object…) the planet is twice as far from its star, which has its periapsis ( The periapsis, periapsis, pericenter or lower apse is the point of an object’s orbit…). It is closer to 55 Cancri A than Mercury to the Sun (The Sun (Sol in Latin, Helios or Ήλιος in Greek) is the star…), although it has an orbital period (In astronomy, the orbital period denotes the duration that a body (star, …) takes longer than the others are called Jupiter This planet is in orbital resonance (orbital resonance in astronomy occurs when two objects orbit a third …) with 55 cancri b (55 cancri b (also called 55 Cancri Ab, Rho1 Cancri b, or HD 75732 b) is a…), with a 1:3 ratio that helps the system stay calm.

The radial velocity method (VéloCité is a free lending service set up by the city of Angers that provides…) used to detect this planet gives only the minimum mass of the object (In a way, generically, the word object (from Latin objectum , 1361) denotes an entity defined in …). Astrometric observations (observation is the act of carefully monitoring phenomena without the will to…) performed by the Hubble Space Telescope (The Hubble Space Telescope (in English, Hubble Space Telescope or HST) is a telescope in…) indicate that the outer planet, 55 Cancri d, is inclined at 53° to the celestial plane (Heaven is the Earth’s atmosphere as seen from the planet’s surface.). If the measurements are confirmed, and if the system is beautiful (named in honor of inventor Alexander Graham Bell, the beautiful is a unit of…) and indeed coplanar (etymologically, multiple objects are coplanar if and only if they are in a.. .), the true mass of 55 Cancri c would then be 25% greater than this lower limit, or about 90% of the mass of Saturn.
