49ers defense attorney Charles Omenihu was arrested Monday afternoon and faces allegations of suspected domestic violence, according to a news release from the San Jose Police Department via the Bay Area News Group.

Officers were called to Omenihu’s home in San Jose to file a domestic violence complaint. A woman who claimed to be Omenihu’s girlfriend told responding officers that Omenihu “pushed her to the ground during an argument.” While no visible physical injuries were noted, the woman complained of arm pain as a result of the impact. She refused medical treatment.

Omenihu, 25, was arrested at the Santa Clara County jail and released after posting bail, San Jose police said. According to the authorities, the results of the ongoing investigation would be presented to the Santa Clara County District Attorney for consideration of possible charges.

The 49ers and the NFL both released statements on the matter:

“We are aware of the matter with Charles Omenihu and are in the process of gathering additional information,” the 49ers statement said.

“The matter is being reviewed under the league’s personal conduct policy,” the NFL statement said. “Nothing has changed in his status.”

Omenihu, a five-year veteran, is in the middle of his second season with the 49ers after starting his career with the Texans. He made three starts in the 2022 regular season while recording a career-high 4.5 sacks. He had two sacks in the 49ers’ win over the Seahawks at Super Wild Card Weekend. Omenihu snapped 15 snaps and injured his bias ligament in the 49ers’ win over the Cowboys in the divisional round, but was able to get back into the game.

The 49ers play the Eagles in the NFC Championship Game on Sunday in Philadelphia.
