A three-year-old child died Wednesday afternoon after drowning at the Club-Med swimming pool in Pointe-aux-Canonniers, Mauritius.
In a press release issued Thursday, Club Med management revealed the boy’s death.
As reported by local media Zinfos Maurice, the little boy, of French nationality, struggled alone in the main swimming pool for four minutes until another child caught the attention of the lifeguard. Quickly rushed to a private clinic on the island, the child was transferred to Réunion, where unfortunately it could not be rescued.
After seeing images from the hotel’s security cameras, the 18-year-old lifeguard was charged with negligence on Tuesday before being paroled. After the death of the little child, he faces a charge of manslaughter.
