The third generation of the Subaru Crosstrek is approaching. The popular sub-compact SUV features a modernized exterior and interior design and benefits from a new, stiffer chassis.
Here are five things you should know about it.
Scalable Aesthetics
In terms of design, the new Crosstrek basically keeps the same shape but gets some tweaks and improvements. As it embodies an adventurer’s identity, its frameless hexagonal grille, more aggressive lights and black wheel arch guard strips accentuate this effect.

The SUV maintains a ground clearance of 220mm, ideal for the Quebec climate. In addition, according to Subaru, several aerodynamic changes contribute to the stability and performance of the SUV.
For example, air vents on the front wheel arches allow for better air evacuation, and two more on either side of the rear bumper help reduce body roll.
The manual gearbox disappears from the catalogue
The Convenience and Touring versions are powered by a 2.0-liter boxer engine. It produces 152 hp and 145 lb-ft of torque. The higher-end variants — Onyx and Limited — use a larger-displacement (2.5-liter) block that develops 182 hp and 178 lb-ft.

Four-wheel drive with X-MODE – which limits speed on steep descents and maximizes grip control on slippery surfaces – is standard. The Crosstrek Onyx and Limited get a sophisticated version of the X-MODE.
To the disappointment of many, the manual transmission is no longer on the menu. Only the continuously variable Lineartronic transmission (CVT) is offered. The Crosstrek PHEV won’t be coming back in 2024.
Upgraded cabin
The interior has been aesthetically revised but is also quieter than before, according to Subaru. The air conditioning has been updated to focus on the occupied seats rather than the entire cabin.

The center console contains a multimedia system with two 7-inch screens or a single 11.6-inch screen – available as an option. The latter enables wireless access to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well as the what3words (W3W) navigation system.
SUBARU STARLINK Connected Services and wireless cell phone charging are also available.
Improved security
The platform on which the Crosstrek sits is 10% more torsion-resistant. In addition, the structure consists of a frame with stronger welds and additional adhesives – which allows for greater rigidity and a weight reduction, Subaru mentions.

Otherwise, all Crosstreks feature the latest generation of EyeSight driver assistance technology. Automatic braking if there is a risk of collision when reversing, blind spot monitoring system, rear cross-traffic alert and lane keeping system are among the onboard functions.

Compared to the 2023 model, the price of the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek increases by $4,000. It is available in four trim levels: Convenience ($28,995), Touring ($32,195), Onyx ($33,995) and Limited ($36,995). Note that all prices are RRP. The vehicle will arrive at the dealership in late spring.
