Police are searching for those responsible for the theft of a 150-pound statue and other items from the set of the highly anticipated Beetlejuice 2 movie in Vermont.

Police said they received reports of two strange and unusual incidents from the East Corinth filming location, including the theft of a large skeletal statue and a lamppost with a conspicuous pumpkin decoration on it, Vermont state police said.

“We tried three times to say the name of this stolen statue, but it didn’t come back!” The Vermont State Police quipped about the incident in a Facebook post on Friday. Here’s the quote

Shortly after midnight on July 14, security personnel told police that an older-style GMC pickup truck pulled up to the Village Road lamppost, removed its base and drove away in it, NBC 5 reported.

The film staff then confirmed on Monday that the thieves had struck again and the statue had been stolen. Police believe it was stolen sometime between 5pm on July 13 and 11am on July 17.

There were no arrests.

Beetlejuice 2, a sequel to Tim Burton’s legendary 1988 horror comedy about a mischievous poltergeist from the “underworld,” is slated to hit theaters in September 2024, according to Variety.

Michael Keaton will reprise his role as the title character and “Wednesday” star Jenny Ortega will play the daughter of Lydia Diaz, played in the original film by Winona Ryder, who also returns for the sequel.

The film is being produced by Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment.
