Another week has gone by. It being tax time and all (yea I waited) I didn’t have time to put together any additional articles but I do have some news stories and software updates that caught my eye. Rather than a lot of small posts, or ignoring them completely, I decided to summarize them here.
On the Web
CNet had an article about the hacking of World of Warcraft accounts for Windows users. They’ve been installing keylogging software to get the WoW information. While they seem to be targeting WoW the fear is they will move on to other real-world attacks. Most of the comprimosed PCs didn’t have the latest patches.
CNet had another story about a new outbreak of spam e-mail due to a new varient of the Storm worm.
If you use Windows run Windows Update to get the latest patches. Also check out the “Free Security Software” category on my links page or in the sidebar. This software is all free without any time limit.
Software
The free Avast Antivirus home edition was updated recently.

If you have the software installed the update can be done by clicking the above box (when it appears on your PC). A reboot is needed. The new version is 4.7.981. It includes fixes for better Vista support, better support for Outlook 2007 along with other general fixes. Avast is free for personal use. See my “Free Security Software” links in the sidebar or on the links page.
Spam Counts
And finally, here are my spam counts for the week. My Gmail account has collected 403 spam emails in the past 30 days. It hasn’t let any through and there weren’t any false positives. The usual disclaimer that there’s not many opportunities for false positives.
My newer email accounts are still spam free.
My other website has received 322 spam comments since it moved to it’s new home at the beginning of this month. Only one spam comment has gotten through the Akismet filter. You can see the current count for this site in the sidebar.
